Bruna Alcantara é artista visual e jornalista. Brasileira, nasceu na cidade de Jacarezinho, região norte do Estado do Paraná. Formada em jornalismo em 2010 pela PUCPR, começou a atuar profissionalmente como artista visual através do arquivo fotográfico familiar como material de pesquisa, e principalmente, ao encontrar no campo artístico o melhor meio para se trabalhar os temas da maternidade e do corpo como instrumento político.

Durante o período de mestrado em Portugal, a artista se envolveu com o movimento feminista local, como mulher e imigrante, assunto obrigatório em seu trabalho. Também é na arte de rua, através da linguagem do lambe-lambe – que envolve imagem e colagem em intervenções urbanas, que Bruna encontra uma das principais formas de expressão.

Ao unir o amor por contar histórias à fotografia, ao bordado, à colagem, aos objetos e às instalações, a artista cria trabalhos visuais que partem da indignação, traumas e violências e tencionam a relação entre o público e o privado.

Bruna Alcantara já participou de eventos nacionais e internacionais, como LambesGoia de Goiânia e Cheap Street Poster Art Festival de Bolonha, assim como já teve seu trabalho em exposições individuais e coletivas em Curitiba, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, e em países como Portugal, Itália e Líbano.

Bruna Alcantara is a visual artist and journalist. Brazilian, she was born in the city of Jacarezinho, in the northern region of the State of Paraná. After graduating in journalism in 2010 from PUCPR, she began to work professionally as a visual artist by using her family’s photographic archive as research material, and mainly, by finding in the artistic field the best way to explore the themes of motherhood and the body as a political instrument.

 

While she was finishing her master's degree in Portugal, the artist became involved with the local feminist movement, as a woman and an immigrant, a mandatory subject in her work. It is also in street art, through the language of paste-up, which involves image and collage in urban interventions, that Bruna finds one of her main forms of expression.

 

By bringing together the love for storytelling with photography, embroidery, collage, object art, and installation, the artist creates visual works that start from indignation, trauma, and violence and strain the relationship between the public and the private.

 

Bruna Alcantara has participated in national and international events, such as LambesGoia in Goiania and the Cheap Street Poster Art Festival in Bologna, as well as having had her work in individual and group exhibitions in Curitiba, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro, and countries like Portugal, Italy, and Lebanon.
